Hall History

The Village Hall is situated adjacent to the 5-acre Memorial Playing Field that was opened in June 1955. The original building on the site was the old cricket pavilion that was carried by hand from the old cricket field and is still in use today. Tennis Courts and a children’s play area have been added over the years.

The ‘new’ Village Hall was built as a community project in 1982 and the project won a BBC sponsored competition that saw the Radio 1 Road Show being broadcast from Milborne Port with Paul Burnett and other famous DJ’s celebrities in attendance.

In June 1993, the hall was host to the BBC’s “Any Questions” featuring Ted Heath, Roy Hattersley, and Jonathon Porritt, with Jonathan Dimbleby in the Chair.

Due to the popularity of locally staged events and, in particular, the efforts of the Milborne Port Opera and their Gilbert & Sullivan productions, the stage and Camelot Room were added in 2001.

The Hall has continued to be a significant village asset that is well utilised by local and other private hirers. The Management Committee are dedicated to securing a positive future for the hall and to maintaining and updating the facilities appropriate to a modern village amenity.

Due to the popularity of locally staged events and, in particular, the efforts of the Milborne Port Opera and their Gilbert & Sullivan productions, the stage and Camelot Room were added in 2001.

Private hirers are always welcome and every effort will be made to ensure that the hirer is very satisfied with the facilities and service provided.
