April Visit to Sherborne School.

A group of History group members and friends had a guided tour of Sherborne Boys' School.  A fascinating two hours were spent there hearing about the history of the School and exploring some of the buildings; some of which belonged to the Abbey's monastery.

April Meeting

Geoff Ward spoke to us about the work that is being done at the Castleton Water Mill, the ongoing projects, and the effects that this had had on the water courses in Milborne Port.

Geoff has been involved wth the project for the past 19 years and had invited us to an Open Evening during the summer, watch this space!  Details to follow.

March Meeting

We were very lucky to have both Denny Robbins & John Rickard from the Somerset Vernacular Building Research Group to talk to us about:

Church Houses and a Milborne Port Example (on which they have carried out a survey).

It was a fascinating evening and I think that we all learnt a lot about what to look for in old buildings especially in regard to Church Houses.

The Somerset Vernacular Building Research Group might be willing to undertake a village survey if we can demonstrate a good level of interest.

Alan Stone - February Meeting

We welcomed back Alan who entertained us with an entertaining talk and slides of Cider in Somerset followed by a taster of his own cider which he and his son produce at their home.

Group AGM

Our first Annual General Meeting was held in November 2017 at the Chapel Museum.  It gave our members an opportunity to look at what we have done and the many displays and items that we have on show there.  A lively discussion took place as to the future of the Group and many ideas were put forward and will be acted upon in the New Year.
