News from the Council Chamber – March 2019

Our regular round up of items of interest that the Parish Council thought worth bringing to the attention of residents. This of course in addition to the formal minutes, the draft of which will be posted shortly.

Parish Council Elections

Parish Councillors serve for a four year term. This year, a new term of office will start with the elections on May 2nd. By the time you read this, you will have had a couple of leaflets about what it means to be a councillor. Please consider whether you would like to serve. More information is on the Milborne Port community website and the South Somerset District Council website.

Annual Parish Meeting

The Parish Council will be holding its annual Parish Meeting on April 9th. This is not a council meeting but a public meeting where residents can listen and contribute to the council’s work over the year and that of other community groups in the village. The meeting starts at 7pm but there will be drinks and nibbles available from 6:30pm.

Utilisation of Canadian Solar Funds

Unfortunately, because of other matters that the council is dealing with that indirectly impact several of the suggestions, the Parish Council decided that it would be fairer to defer the decision process until the April meeting.

South West in Bloom (SWIB)

Council agreed to enter this year’s South West in Bloom; a competition which has seen the village gain prizes in the last few years. The Parish Council would like to hear from anyone who would like to help with this, continuing to generate pride in our village.

Plastic Free Community and Litter Pick

Members of the Parish Council continue to work towards this goal of being accredited as a plastic free community, and a motion will be put before council in April. As part of this (and SWIB), there will be a litter pick on 13th April starting at 10am at the East Street car park. All welcome and equipment/bags will be provided.
