Lent Lunches: Lent Learning

church houseLent lunches will take place on Fridays commencing on Friday 16th February at 12.30 for 1.00 p.m. All will be in Church House EXCEPT on 23rd February, when the venue will be STEPS. They will consist of a choice of home made soups plus bread and cheese and tea/coffee. Money raised will go to Christian Aid.   There is no need to book - just turn up. Donate what you can.

Consultation on Library future

SCC colour logoReaders of this website and the village magazine cannot fail to have seen the struggle over the years to maintain our library. Somerset County Council are now entering a phase of formal consultation on the future of the libraries in Somerset which will run between 29th January and 22nd April. You can go to www.somerset.gov.uk/librariesconsultation to be part of this or talk to staff at the library. Also, there are planned to be drop in sessions with group discussion. For Milborne Port, this will take place in the Camelot room at the village hall on March 6th between 2:30-5:30 pm.

Black FOMPL logo002The New Year started with three welcome events – and one piece of very unwelcome news.

On 18th Jan, local author Caroline Newark gave us an entertaining account of her efforts to trace her family history. This led her to discover the extraordinary life of her 17th great-grandmother, Joan of Kent, cousin of the King of England. It was a story that just had to be told, and her book ‘The Fair Maid of Kent’ was the result.

Spirit of Milborne Port Plans for 2018

Spirit of Milborne Port New cropped smallAs we are fast approaching the end of January and Christmas is becoming a distant memory, I’m sure you will all agree that we would like some nicer weather!!  This year the xmas trees were taken down in record time!! A big thank you to all of those who helped, it’s not the best job of the year but it was done with speed, humour and a huge amount of community spirit!!
