WI plan for AGM

WI logoA few of our members weren't able to attend our April meeting which was a pity as the speaker was very interesting indeed. She talked about her visits to Spitzbergen and the Arctic Circle and showed slides of snow capped fjords, polar bears, walruses etc.   It was obvious we were fascinated as we were sorry when her talk came to an end and we hope to book her again next year.   After our refreshment break and business matters, we had a geography quiz which was won by Jenny Hill.

Book Group review - Mrs. Dalloway

image039The author of this review chose this book having seen the ballet Woolf Works on television, and been intrigued by a story as presented in dance.

At first I found reading this book difficult. It’s not very long, but has a style made from very long sentences with lots of commas and semi-colons, and at first at least no clear story. I made the (as it turned out correct) decision to start again after just 2 or 3 pages. As I got into Woolf’s way of writing it gradually made sense, and in fact her style is one of the main reasons I ended up loving it.

Milborne Port Pottery

Heritage LogoYou will see on the Heritage pages, that the next meeting will be on Monday 16th April, 7.30, Church House, Bathwell Lane, Milborne Port. The William Barnes Society will be presenting an evening of Music, Poetry and Humour along with a Quiz to test your knowledge of the Dorset Dialect. Several of us have seen the Society in action and it promises to be a very entertaining and amusing evening.  

The group are also searching for information, as the History Group have recently purchased a pot from Ebay made by H. Wright in Milborne Port Pottery with Milborne Port Pottery stamped to the underside.

Health Walks

news-800pxSouth Somerset Council are keen to promote healthy living and in support of this, there are "health walks"; gentle exercise on pavements and off roads to help staying healthy, socialising and discovering more of our local area. These take place every Monday starting at the Milborne Port surgery at 2pm. Everyone is welcome there is a bit more detail on the attached flyer.
