WI hear about travels to the Far East

WI logoIt was very nice to see most of our members at our first meeting of 2019, especially as it was a cold and damp evening. However, it is good to get out and meet friends again after the Christmas festivities.   We always welcome new members so please come along to our next meeting in February and 'give us a try'.

Our speaker was Ian Williamson who talked about his travels in Vietnam. He raises money for St. Margaret's Hospice by being sponsored to go on these treks, then talking about them to various groups like ours afterwards.   This year he is going to Southern India and next year he hopes to be walking the Great Wall of China to celebrate 40 years of St. Margaret's.   He was a very natural speaker, not talking from any notes but just relating his experiences, talking about people in the villages they went through and answering questions.   Everyone agreed how interesting he made the talk and admired him for the money raised for this very important charity. He brought a few items from the hospice shop to sell which we were able to look at and purchase whilst coffee was being served.

Our next Meeting is on 14th February at 7.30pm in the old Town Hall when our speaker will be Miranda Pender who will be performing 'Light hearted Words & Music'. Some of us had the pleasure of seeing her at last year's group meeting and found her very entertaining. She writes her own songs, some of which are very amusing and others quite touching.   She is certainly worth coming to see.

In the meantime, do remember that we open our room to serve coffee/teas and cakes & biscuits every Friday morning from 10.30am - everyone welcome.
