Busy November for Spirit

Spirit of Milborne Port New cropped smallAs always November has been a busy month for us. More poppies were put up than last year and were an important part of our village's commemoration of the centenary of the Armistice at the end of the Great War.

Now we can look forward to Christmas and the trees in the high street help the festive spirit. Many thanks to all our helpers who decorated the trees and put them up in the High Street and also to the WI for opening the meeting room.

The main event this month was the Christmas Lights Switch On with flyers being delivered throughout the village. The fun began with the Church Bells ringing followed by the visit of Father Christmas and story time in the library. As the evening progressed people gathered around the Town Hall, the Grand Switch On took place, the raffle and cash prize were drawn and finally Christmas carols were sung led by the School Choir and the Sherborne Town Band. The enthusiasm for this event increases each year which shows the strong community spirit which exists in Milborne Port. We always appreciate the support of the village at these times.

Plans are being laid for the Summer Fete on June 1st 2019. If you would like to help with this major village project, come along to one of our committee meetings. There is always a huge amount to be done and this event is extremely expensive to put on so we need as many helpers as possible to ensure that it is a success.
