Friends of Milborne Port Library - June 2018

Black FOMPL logo002Here is the next important date for the Friends: 5.30 pm, Wednesday 20th June. Annual General Meeting in the Library.

Apart from essential annual business reports, our Annual General Meeting gives everyone an opportunity for informal discussion of any issues, or ideas, that are on our minds. The County Council proposals threatening a real reduction in our Library service are definitely on our minds!

The Trustees are only representatives of the community and we want to hear what you think and be supported by your ideas. If you haven’t been to one of our AGMs before—why not make this the year when you truly Take Part?

Another way of Taking Part has been via the County Council’s Consultation document. This is still active until 13th June, so if you haven’t already made your wishes known you still have time – just!

You can do this directly Online at www.somerset.gov.uk/consultation or printed questionnaires are available at the Library. The deadline for taking part in the Consultation is 13th June.

On a County level, a further meeting was arranged for late May between Somerset County Council and Friends of Somerset Libraries (FOSL), at which FOSL would continue to press SCC to look at alternative ways to achieve savings, rather than scattering libraries control to the 4 winds. We will report on this next month.

We also look forward to working with Parish Councillors to explore how we could respond effectively in a way that would secure reasonable Library Services here.
