WI looking forward to Spring

WI logoChristine Porter writes; it was lovely to see so many familiar faces at our January meeting when we all paid our subscriptions for 2018, together with two visitors, Mary and June, who attend the Craft Group on Tuesdays and are considering joining the WI.

We have a very interesting and varied programme for this year, together with various social events. The first of these is on the 27th January when some of us will be attending a Burns Night Supper at Henstridge, quickly followed by the traditional Winter Warmer at South Cadbury on the 31st when we will be served a delicious tea to brighten up a dull January afternoon.

We are having a theatre trip to Salisbury on Thursday 15th March. I believe all tickets have been sold but there are a few spaces left on the coach, so anyone would like to join us and go shopping in Salisbury for the day the fare is £12.50 and we leave Milborne Port at 9.30am, returning by 6.00pm. If you are interested in this please contact Hazel on 251428, or pop into the WI Room any Friday morning.

Our speaker in January was Dawn Lawrence who read several amusing animal-themed poems from her books which she writes to raise money for the Born Free Foundation. She also told us about her connections with this organisation. After our coffee break Reidun read out a quiz and the raffle was won by one of our visitors. Our next meeting is on 8th February when David Andrews will be entertaining us again with 'Romance Through the Ages'. David proved very popular when he stepped in at our Christmas meeting, so I am sure we will have another good evening with him. In the meantime, don't forget we open our Room to serve coffees and teas, with usually a home-made cake, and biscuits every Friday morning at 10.30am and everyone is welcome.
