WI gear up for Christmas

WI logoChristine Porter writes; we were very pleased to welcome four visitors to our last meeting -Jo, Rosie, Lyn and Maggie, and we hope they will decide to join us in 2018. They chose a good month for their first visit as our speaker was Rachael Harding from Yeovil who had been a champion ballroom dancer, winning many cups and medals.

It was fascinating to hear the story of her and her husband dancing their way round the various venues in this country and Europe, even making her own costumes.   She bought a gorgeous pink bejewelled ballgown to show us. Being as many of us are fans of 'Strictly' on the television, it was really good to hear Rachael talk about all the hard work, dedication and relentless practice that goes into it.

Our competition was entitled 'My Bit of Bling' and Rachael had many items of costume jewellery members had brought in to choose from before deciding on a necklace belonging to Reidun.

At the meeting I reminded members of the two forthcoming carol services in December. The big one at Wells Cathedral on the 13th which always signifies the start of Christmas to me, and our group one which this year is at Horsington on the 8th.

At the beginning of the month we had two teams in the Group Quiz which this year was organised by North Cheriton and I am very pleased to say that one of our teams won and the other came third. By the time you read this we will have had our Christmas Bazaar and enjoyed our shopping trip to Exeter. Our final meeting this year is on 14th December when we enjoy a fish and chip supper, accompanied by a selection of Christmas music. This event is for paid-up members only, so any potential members are welcome to join us for our first meeting in January.
