Friends of Milborne Port Library - October 2017

Black FOMPL logo002There were gasps of amazement when a Tiger appeared, as if by magic, at our End of Summer Reading Challenge Party.

Agent Tiger arrived just in time to assist Library Staff members, Sue O’Brien and Edwina Stirzaker, by presenting Medals to the 31 children who were there.   In total, 60 children took part in the Challenge over the summer months, most of them reading the six books needed to complete the Challenge. They will all receive their Medals and Certificates to prove it.

Credit must go to Roz Barrett and Jill Spring for dreaming up the challenging activities, and thanks to the Volunteers helping on the day. Not forgetting the mysterious Agent Tiger, of course!

Now Autumn approaches with National Libraries Week, 9th – 14th October.

Children from three classes at the Primary School will be coming to the library for story times during the week. Ten Junior Librarians from the School are also keen to come into the Library at some time during Libraries Week!

On Tuesday 10th, from 2—4.30 pm. one of our Trained IT Volunteers will be on hand for a Drop In Session

Also on Tuesday 10th, the Reading Group invite you to a Share and Swop Party!

booksCome along and Share your thoughts on a favourite book, and/or bring a book to Swop. There will be nibbles and drinks as we celebrate the fact that our Library has had a vibrant Reading Group for 16 years. The Party will start at 5.30 and end at around 7pm. – So make a date for that.

On Saturday 14th the week concludes with a Special Offer. DVDs at Half Price!

Another important deadline is for October 17th.

Trustees of the Friends will join Parish Councillors to meet Officers from the Library Service. We understand that this will be an opportunity to hear about the 3-year plan for the library service and some of the options being explored to help maintain library services for the longer term. After a season of jollity, this meeting will focus our minds on more serious business. We’ll report on this next month.
