Reflections on village achievements

This website was created as the result of the Parish Plan development in 2010. Maureen Lock reflects on other outcomes from the plan. One of the recommendations of the Parish Plan which was compiled following extensive public consultations was to improve the ”Street Scene” of the High Street. The Parish Council looked at ideas to cover the unusable seat opposite the Town Hall. After much research and advice the decision was made and in 2015 the shelter was erected.

There were other initiatives also happening. The Spirit of Milborne Port sponsored the first hanging baskets and the Entrance Stone at Crackmore. They also suggested our first entry into the Village In Bloom Competition.

The WI planted a tree and put a new planter on the Weighbridge, improved the area in front of the Town Hall and sponsored a mosaic outside Something Else Fishy.

The Village in Bloom group has gone from strength to strength winning 1 silver, 4 silver gilt, and 2 gold in the Cox Cup. The WI organised the refurbishment of the Crackmore bus shelter with the help of pupils and staff from The Gryphon School and Milborne Port Primary. The Serco cup for community work in the SW was won in 2017.

Volunteers keep the Ball Court, the Grove Garden, The Cemetery, Crackmore bus shelter and the Churchyard in excellent order to give pleasure to many.

Even prior to 2010 Village Plan recommendations, the village had always had a good community spirit. There had been plenty of initiatives going on and clubs and groups forming and developing to involve the young, the elderly, the least and most active and finding something for everybody to enjoy.   Some of the activities have raised no publicity, some have raised plenty and some have just evolved. Whatever, they have always been of benefit to all, whether a local or a newcomer.

Our thanks to all those who try to make this a good village in which to live. It is hoped that we can continue this good community involvement
