WI learn about future waste services

WI logoWe had a very good attendance at our February meeting when  Beth from Somerset Waste Partnership came to talk to us about recycling.  It was gratifying to know that  Somerset is one of the top councils for the high percentage of waste which gets recycled instead of ending up in landfill sites.   Also, most of our recycling takes place in this country rather than being sent abroad.

Beth explained how Somerset intends to recycle even more household waste over the next few years so wheelie bin collections will only take place every three weeks.  All households will be informed of this nearer the time.   We were pleased to welcome Austin from the Parish Council to our meeting. as well as two new ladies who have now joined us - Karen and Sarah.  We now have a membership of 40.   However, visitors are always welcome to attend our meetings if the subject being discussed is of interest.  We now charge £5 for these occasional visits.

Part of being a WI member is to socialise with other institutes.   During February South Cadbury and Sutton Montis invited us to their Winter Warmer, which consisted of a very nice tea, beautifully served, in South Cadbury Village Hall.  They are only a small WI so it's good to support them.   The same day we were also invited to Thornford WI  in the evening when they celebrate their birthday in February.   Although they are obviously in the Dorset Federation we always get invited as we are quite local to them.   A good time was had at both these venues.

We have our theatre trip in Salisbury to look forward to in March when we are going to see the thriller 'Dial M for Murder'.   By the time you read this, all tickets may have been sold but it could be worth contacting someone in the WI just in case there are any left.

Our March meeting is when our annual dinner takes place in Church House and this is for paid-up members only.   However, we look forward to seeing villagers and visitors at our weekly coffee mornings on Friday at 10.30am in the old Town Hall building in the High Street.
