WI planning their first few months activities

WI logoOur first meeting of the year was well attended, including four new members and three other ladies who we hope will be joining us very soon.   Visitors are most welcome to attend any of our meetings during the year which they feel may interest them.   We charge £5.00 for visitors which includes their drink - this money goes towards the cost of our speakers, overheads and any projects which we hope to undertake this year.   Our speaker in January gave an interesting talk on Gardens of the First World War which was followed by a quiz organized by Ailsa.

At our meeting in February a Community Engagement Officer from Somerset Waste Partnership will be talking to us about Recycling.   I believe Somerset Council has plans to recycle more of our waste over the coming years and this will no doubt be explained to us.   We do feel that this is of interest to the village as it will affect all households.   If you would like to attend could you please contact our secretary, Pam Burr, on 251757 so we know how many extra people to expect.

Our social calendar is beginning this year as South Cadbury and Sutton Montis WI have invited us to their usual Winter Warmer next month.  This is just a social get-together of the seven WIs in the Stavordale Group when we meet in their village hall and are served delicious sandwiches and cakes etc.   Later that month we have been invited to 'cross the border'into Dorset to attend Thornford's annual birthday party.

Also Janet has arranged for our Spring theatre trip to Salisbury on March 11th when we will be going to see the thriller 'Dial M for Murder'.   If you are interested in joining us, the coach leaves at 9.30am which gives  us time to stroll round Salisbury and have lunch before going to the matinee performance.   Please either ring Janet on 250844 or pop into the WI room on any Friday morning to find out details of cost and reserve a place.

Talking of Friday mornings, if you are new to the village, or just unaware, we are open every Friday morning from 10.30 and serve 'real coffee', plus a selection of teas and usually a slice of home-made cake, all at a very modest cost.   We look forward to serving members, villagers and visitors.
