It’s Official – Milborne Port Primary School has a new classroom

mpps-logoRob Lockey writes; we were very pleased to have Lord Allen and Mike Fisher attend our school during the morning of October 17th to open our new, additional classroom.

The event started with our Headteacher, Mrs Eyres welcoming all assembled guests (including neighbours, parents and friends of the school). We were then treated to the children singing the school song “Proud of Our School”. Amongst our guests was Miss Horner, the first headteacher at our school following the closure of Church School in 1979.

After a welcome from myself as Chair of Governors, Lord Allen made a short speech around the schools aims, finishing with a message to the children that they can/will change the world. Lord Allen cut the ribbon at the entrance of the new classroom. Lord Allen and Mike Fisher were then presented with a plaque relating to the old Church School which has now been converted into their beautiful new restaurant, the Clockspire. This was presented by Clive Laughton and Miss Horner.

The morning was completed by refreshments being served by the PTFA assisted by some of the pupils. Our guests were also given tours of the school by pupils.

The new classroom was built over the summer holidays and enables the school to offer separate classes for each year group – something not offered by many neighbouring schools. Having separate classes has also resulted in smaller class sizes.
