WI looking forward to their summer events

WI logoChristine Porter writes; many thanks to those of you who supported us by purchasing raffle tickets on our bottle stall at the Spirit of Milborne Port Fete.   i hope those of you who won enjoyed your prizes, whether it be a bottle of champagne or vinegar - both of which were on our stand with every sort of bottle in between!  It's hard to remember after our days of wet, cold and dismal weather that it was a glorious sunny and warm day, resulting in lots of people attending the fete.   All credit must go to the Spirit of Milborne Port Committee and helpers who put on such a great fete each year.

Our June meeting was well attended and we were very pleased to welcome Pip, a new member, who came along to 'give us a try'.  She must have enjoyed herself as she signed up to be a member before the meeting was over.   Our speaker was very entertaining and his talk was entitled 'Donkeys, Dolphins, Foxes and Fish' so I wasn't sure what to expect.   The 'fish' was when he was a fishmonger for over 40 years at Slough, then Reading, before retiring to Somerset.   He told us of his various encounters with Health Standard officers, for whom he didn't have a lot of respect.  His property now appears to be a haven for wild and rescued animals, including the donkey and fox of the title.

After our coffee break (or in this case wine), Jan, our president, presented me with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and card as a token of appreciation for being president for the previous three years.   This was totally unexpected and I was really thankful to receive it.  The flowers are still looking beautiful.

Then Jan told us about various forthcoming events.   By the time you read this we will have had our outing to Cothay Manor.  However,  during the first week of July we have been invited to Horsington to share their 'Strawberry Evening' which is an event they hold every July to raise funds for their institute.   Then on Friday, 5th July, we will be hosting the annual Group Social in the Village Hall to which the other W.Is in the group have been invited to a Greek Evening which should be fun.   Our next monthly meeting is on 11th July in the old Town Hall when our speaker will be talking about 'Just a Pop of Colour', showing us which colours we should be wearing etc.   Do come along if you want to find out more.

Looking forward to seeing you at our regular Friday coffee mornings.
