Friends of Milborne Port Library (FOMPL) - June 2019

Black FOMPL logo002The Friends continue to be optimistic about the future. We are at the final stages required to form the Community Library Partnership with Somerset County Council that will manage our Library service in the future.

Meanwhile, celebration of all that has been achieved in the 30-plus years that the Library has been at home in Cross Cottage will be at an Open House morning, between 10 a.m. and 1 pm. on Friday 28th June. Drinks and nibbles will be served and everyone is welcome.

Do drop in and make this a real occasion to remember before the Library finally closes at that address on Saturday 29th.

Then there will be a slight delay before the Library re-opens in the middle of July in a Mobile Library Bus parked in East Street car park. This will be ‘Home’ until the new Community Hub is ready on the Redcliffe Homes development.

We’ve had an amusing response to the ‘Name the Bus’ appeal so far. You will be able to Vote for the winner at our stall at the Summer Fete on Saturday June 1st.  We will have books and puzzles for sale and information about the 2019 Summer Reading Challenge, which starts on 13 July. The 2019 theme is Space Chase, an out-of-this-world adventure inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. Children taking part will join our super space family, The Rockets, for a thrilling mission to track down books nabbed by mischievous aliens!

Kirsty Jenssen, of the Royal Voluntary Service, visited the Tuesday Luncheon Club on 7th May to talk about the Home Delivery Book Service.  This scheme delivers books to people who are unable to get to their local library due to poor health or mobility, or caring responsibilities. When you sign up for the service you indicate the type of books you enjoy or how you like books to be printed (i.e. might be Large Print). Audiobooks are included in what can come to your door. You can order books, without paying the normal booking fee, and you won’t be charged for ‘overdue returns’ either!

To get started, talk to our library staff (01963 251355), or call the RVS on 07920 250834, or email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  We have a strong team of Volunteers working on this scheme in and around our village, so why not give it a try?”

Finally, don’t miss the ‘Farewell to Cross Cottage’ event on FRIDAY 28 JUNE. And – See You at the Summer Fete!
