WI AGM

WI logoIt is lovely to have the longer days and lighter evenings which I hope will encourage people to come to our monthly Meetings which take place in the old Town Hall in the High Street on the second Thursday of each month at 7.30pm.

It was our AGM in April when the officers read their Annual Reports.  This began with our Treasurer's Report who assured us that we have sufficient funds in the bank to carry on for the forthcoming year!  Ann, our secretary, read her report which summarized our year's activities.  We had a very wide range of speakers, including someone talking about Jonathan Toogood's  work as a surgeon and establishing Somerset's first hospital at Bridgwater; Ian Williamsons's travels in Vietnam and a couple of light-hearted musical evenings.   We also very much enjoyed our annual dinner, the summer social evening and the Christmas fish & chip supper.  As President, I then thanked everyone on the Committee who helped me during my three-year term.   We have a rule whereby the Presidency is changed after three years and I am happy to say Jan Smith will now be the president, having served as treasurer for the past few years.   Members were reminded that next month we will be discussing the WI resolutions for this year and voting accordingly.

After the business matters, we served the customary 'wine and nibbles' before having a sing-song of sixties (and older) medleys which was enjoyed by all.  We were indebted to Anna, who stepped in at short notice to play the piano-accordian for us.

Our next meeting will be on 9th May when the talk will be entitles 'Illegal Immigrants'.  However, the immigrants concerned are unwanted weeds in your garden, and not as the title suggests!   We look forward to welcoming any new members who would like to 'give us a try'.   In the meantime, do pop in for a coffee on Friday mornings from 10.30am.
