Newsletter 23 July

Whilst the frenetic activity surrounding the Jubilee weekend has subsided, the weather of that weekend continues to plague us though I understand that the jet stream may be heading for a northern holiday soon so we may get a summer after all.

The month of August promises to be a quiet one in the village, though with a diary of over 60 regular events plus church services and council meetings, the word quiet is a relative one!

Mandy Forsey, our PCSO is very keen to attract more stalls to the regular farmer’s market at the Queens Head. Summer produce should be at its height in August so come along and support this. If you want to take a stall, please contact Mandy.

The Village Swimming Pool (on the Primary School site) can be hired out over the summer holidays.

There will also be a garden party to raise funds for the church bells appeal. This will be held on 12th August. Contact Susan Wales for details.

Before this, a Church lunch and BBQ is planned for 5th August. Let us hope for BBQ weather!!

The Friends of Milborne Port Library (FOMPL) have also much to report.

Finally Milborne Port’s own Michael Bawtree will give an organ recital at the church, with proceeds in favour of the bells fund, on 5th September.

If you have enjoyed these snippets of information sent to you, please encourage your friends to sign up to the newsletter by registering for it at As you know it is free and only asks for your name and e-mail address.

Jubilee News

The planning is almost complete with feverish activity from The Spirit of Milborne Port organisers, for what promises to be the biggest event for some time in Milborne Port. So come rain or shine, we are hoping for a massive turnout for the Jubilee Fete on the afternoon of Saturday 2nd June. There will be a grand opening by Mrs. Lily Durrant at 2pm on the playing fields. Before that, the festivities will start with a garden trail and scarecrow hunt, fancy dress competition and grand parade. Please come and line the streets, wave your flags and follow the parade to the Fete. Have a look on the Jubilee pages of the website for more information of the activities and events that are taking place at the Fete.

Please make sure that do pace yourselves, as following the afternoon fete, the Jubilee celebrations will continue into the evening with the “Party at the Port” starting at 7pm featuring the Ship of Fools, Mid Life Crisis, Sean Crossley and a surprise Guest Band!! Tickets are on sale now in village shops, public houses, the garage and the club. The Tickets are selling fast, so make sure you buy yours early! If you are interested in faster broadband services coming to our village then you can register your interest by taking part in a short survey, which will continue to be available on the following website until the middle of August; This will also keep you up to date with project news and developments.

Welcome to the new community website for Milborne Port. We have created this website following the outcome of the Parish Plan, to try to keep villagers informed of the many social and sports activities in our village. It does not seek to replace other communications methods such as the new notice board and the Milborne Port magazine, but to provide an alternative channel to find out what is going on.You can receive updates to this newsletter including a link to the diary e-mailed to you every month by subscribing (see panel on the right hand side) There is no cost for this subscription.

There is also no intention to replace the more commercial aspects of which contains i.a. commercial entries and paid advertising as well as the transactions of the Parish Council. The next full Parish Council meeting by the way is on 15th May.

You will see that there is a special section for the Jubilee activities and we hope that you will be keen to keep abreast of these. Don’t forget the major events on the 2nd June, the fete and Party at the Port.

If you look at the diary, you will be amazed at how much activity is going on in our community. That, in itself, brings its own problems and keeping everything up to date is the major one. As we will be maintaining the content with a team of volunteers, we would be grateful to learn of any errors in these pages. If you want some other activity added, please also get in touch.

If you find this website useful, spread the word by forwarding the website address to your contacts.
