Newsletter October 2017

As the summer recedes, many will look to see what indoor activities there are to offer, and this roundup of the month of October in prospect aims to help with that.

On Tuesday 3rd October, the blood transfusion service will again be in the Village Hall to take donations of this precious resource.

Also on 3rd October will be the full Parish Council meeting which will be followed by the committee meetings two weeks later. You can look at the agendas and minutes on the Parish Council pages of this website. These pages also contain a summary of the previous business in the Council’s regular “News from the Council Chamber”. We note that there is a Parish Council vacancy and the council is seeking enthusiastic people to fill this role.

On 7th October, the Flatland Boogie Band will be entertaining those at the Sports and Social Club.

On 13th October, the second Moviola screening of the season, which takes its new regular spot on Friday is “Denial”; an all too recent battle for truth against the Holocaust deniers.

The 16th October sees a further half muffled ring of the St. John’s Church bells to commemorate two more lives lost to the first world war. This day also sees the Heritage group’s meeting where it tackles the subject of local boundaries. Interesting timing as the boundary commission is just beginning a review of our current council and ward boundaries. Look for more activities on the Heritage group’s pages including a visit to the Guildhall.

Friday 20th will see the Somerton Festival Band playing at the Village Hall. This is the first of several live concerts this season in response to the stated desire for this in the recent Parish Questionnaire. Priced at a modest £7.50, this should be an entertaining evening and as with the Moviola, beer and wine will be on sale in the hall.

On the news pages also, you will find a plea for someone new to spearhead the litter pick in the village. The Wi also report on their recent and forthcoming activities and they are even mentioning Christmas.

The Friends of Milborne Port Library report on the party held for children who took part in the summer reading challenge and talk of their forthcoming activities including a drop in session for people wanting to know more about IT.

If we look at the calendar, if is full of activities for those autumn and winter evenings with activities ranging from the energetic sounding “flexercise” and Badminton to the brain focussed Bridge club. Have a good look, you will be surprised at what you find. As you look around the diary, you will also see red colour coded events. This is a direct feed from the new Primary School website and shows the fantastic range of things that the school are involved with.

As ever, if we have missed something or you have something interesting to report, please get in touch.
