Newsletter 2nd May 2017

Our monthly collation of news and events around the village. We hope you find this useful. If you have any other events or news that we have missed, please contact the administrator, and it you are sending information about the village for publication in the magazine, why not send to the website as well?

Following the Milborne Port Opera’s production of “Into the Woods”, which was as usual a great piece of entertainment but very different from their normal fayre, the Village Hall returns to its normal self as venue for badminton, short mat bowls and the like.

However, there are other one offs at the village Hall during May. On 4th May, the local government elections will be taking place to elect our county councillor, and on 9th May, the blood transfusion service will be present for those wanting to donate.

As we move into late spring, we note that some tennis sessions for ladies will be available from 16th May and the gardening club will be holding its latest plant sale on 20th May. They also are preparing for their summer garden visits, and will be holding their next meeting on 9th May.

The WI will be holding their AGM in May and the Friends of Milborne Port library review their activities for the last year.

Following the successful opening of the heritage museum at the cemetery chapel in April, the group’s next meeting will be on metal finds in Milborne Port on 22nd May.

Thinking of others is a feature of many activities in our village and the Give Life Live Life charity, who’s ball last October raised some 16,000 report on their cheque presentation ceremony.

Also on the theme of others, there will be a quarter peal of the Church bells on 27th May supporting the “Strike Back Against Blood Cancer” appeal, and a few days later, the half muffled ringing of the bell will again commemorate one of the fallen of the great war.

On Council matters, draft minutes of the latest meetings, including the annual Parish meeting are on the website as is our regular “news from the council chamber” where the council have highlighted some items under discussion at the last meeting. The May full council meeting on 2nd May is where the chair and committee members are elected for the year.
