Newsletter - 1st February 2020

In this month’s edition of your newsletter, we have great news from the Friends of Milborne Port Library – story time is back on Saturday mornings in the Jolly Book Bus. Have a look at their article which also contains a reminder of the library opening times.

The Parish Council report on several things; data from SID and the increase in the precept to manage the increasing load on the council. They will have three different meetings this month and at the full council meeting on Tuesday are set to co-opt an additional councillor to fill the ranks.

The WI are getting into recycling with a talk from the Somerset Waste partnership about their plans which include a replacement of the recycling lorries over the coming year. They also talk of other activities coming up and once again remind us of their weekly coffee mornings at the Town Hall.

The Climate change action group will be holding their climate emergency strike on 14th of the month outside the Town Hall to generate further awareness of the issue.

SSDC are advertising their health walks; perhaps timely as we try to get rid of the last of the Chris mas excesses. Of course, this will also be helped as Lent (the period of fasting) will begin after Shrove Tuesday on 25th February when the annual Lent lunches begin on 28th.

Following the unavailability of “Knives Out” at the Moviola showing in January, we are informed that this film will now be shown on 21st of the month at the village hall.

As we get into the new year, members of the village, with the help of members of the Parish council will be entering the South West in Bloom competition, hoping to again win prizes for their efforts in the village.

Those of you who visit the website regularly will see the announcement of road works in the village that are likely to cause severe disruption. There is often only a week’s notice of these so please check back to the news pages regularly to find out about these.

Finally, if you like the sound of Church bells ringing, then on the 29th February there will be an attempt for a full peal at the Parish Church.
